Love your Job and not your Company - RIP, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam

Its indeed sad to hear about the sudden demise of our beloved late President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Populary known as the Missile Man and loved and revered by one and all from children to the old and across the world. He demystified the aura around the Presidents Office and made himself and his office & his palace accessible to the common man. He was one of the first President to vote. After relinquishing his office he went back and stayed in a One & a Half room house - in stark contrast to the earlier Presidents. 
    
I was fortunate to have shook hands with him and listen to his address at the NHRD National Conference in Hyderabad in Nov 2013. He spoke with great passion and urged all of us to Dream and to always work with an attitude to "Serve - People, Humanity & the Nation". He said HR is all about serving and not just to Corporate Honcho's and to Corporate Employees but also to widen our horizon of serving the People at Large. He made a very sarcastic remark "Love your job - Dont love your Company, because you may not know when your Company will stop loving you". So very true in this Opportunistic world.







He was know for simplicity, kindness, cheerful smile, integrity and forthrightness. He loved to spend time with Children for he felt that if he could influence the minds of the youth of India, he could help shape the future of India.


He took a few questions and due to want of time, he said "dont worry, I will answer all your questions. Pl. write to me apj@abdulkalam.com and I promise you, you will get a reply in 24 hours". Amazing human being and from a Ex-President of the Largest Democracy.


He has left a big void and I wonder whom will the youth of India write to in future and who will answer their inquisitive questions ?

Ten reasons to Quit your current Job.....

These are the top ten reasons why you might want to quit your current job. These are difficult, if not impossible, to solve. You need to look out for your best interests. Your job consumes too many hours of too many days of your life for you to stay where you are miserable. No excuses, now. If these issues exist with your job, make a plan, and change jobs.

1. Your company is experiencing a downward spiral, losing customers, losing money, and rumors of possible closure, bankruptcy and failure prevail.
2. Your relationship with your manager is damaged beyond repair. You have sought help to mend the relationship but you know it is too damaged for recovery. 4. Your values are at odds with the corporate culture. Perhaps your company is egalitarian and you believe in assigned parking spots for salaried employees. Your company does annual employee satisfaction surveys and you think these are a waste of time. Your company is hierarchical and you want to influence every aspect of your job. No matter where the clash is occurring, a lack of congruence with the corporate culture will destroy your attitude at work.
5. You've stopped having fun and enjoying your job. No matter what changed, when you dread going to work in the morning, it's time to leave your job.
6. Your company is ethically challenged. Perhaps, the managers lie to customers about the quality of the products or the day on which product will ship. You become aware that the company is stealing information from competitors. Whatever the issue, don't stay in an organization where your ethics are out of sync.
7. For whatever reason, you have behaved in ways that are considered improper at work. You've missed too many days of work, slacked off on the job, failed to maintain needed skills and just generally developed the reputation of a loser. That reputation, once earned, is unlikely to change, so you might as well move on, while you have the opportunity.
8. You've burned your bridges with your co-workers. Your group is not getting along in an environment that requires people to work together well. Again, at some point, the reasons don't matter; start fresh in a new job and resolve to not let this situation happen again.
9. Your stress level is so high at work that it is affecting your physical or mental health and your relationships with your friends and family. How to Start a Business Out of Nothing at All

Last week I wrote about a couple of entrepreneurs who had given up cushy jobs to take off on their own internet startup adventures. The most striking thing about their business ideas was not what they needed to start this business, but what they didn't!

Here's what you don't necessarily need to start a business:

Space: If you think you need to rent office space whether for an army of staff you hope to build or even just for yourself that's not always true. An internet business needs no physical space whatsoever, except maybe a little real estate on your lap for a laptop.

An army: You also don't need a gang of minions running around doing the thousand different things you imagine a business has to do, like marketing, selling, photocopying and whatnot, again that's not necessarily true of businesses. Not only are there many options for internet marketing and sales you can take on yourself, you can easily get virtual freelancers online, at freelancer.in for example, who will do that for you as well.

An endless bankroll: At least you need capital to start a business, right? I mean, isn't that basic common business sense? Not anymore. We live in a wonderful world where you can take nothing and make something out of it.

You can take your time, your energy, your passion, and your free Wi-Fi connection from the local Starbucks coffee shop and start making money. Funding will, of course, make life easier. It will help your business grow faster. And not to mention, it will give you something to live on while you are starting up. But you don't need much to get started.

50 hours in a day: So many people who want to start something don't because they simply don't have time, caught up in the web of demanding jobs and other responsibilities. But you can now start a business online with as little as a few hours a day if you know how.

It's not as complicated as you think

Truckloads of talent:A little talent, or even no talent can get you a long way in the type of business we are recommending here. Not only do you not have to be a genius prodigy but you also don't need any extraordinary skill or knowledge to start this type of business. Maybe like our wealth guru Mark Ford says, all you need is the mindset of a champion.

Friends in high places: If they didn't have any of the above, these guys must have had a lot of connections to start a business, right? After all without either money or connections how far can you get nowadays? They did have connections, friends who were willing to support them and share their skills, experience and ideas, family that believed in them. And partners they could trust. Those are connections you certainly will need. Friends in high places can help, but that's not as important as just having friends.

Perfectionism: A perfectionist entrepreneur believes she has to do everything perfectly, unless things are all perfectly in place she won't start. And if she won't start, she certainly won't get anywhere. If you think 'I'd rather do nothing than do a sloppy job', you will not be able to start that business. Instead think 'even if I do a sloppy job at first I will just get started and learn as I go'.

If you're letting a lack of any of these things stop you from starting a business, you are probably considering the wrong kind of business.

I'm here to tell you that the type of business you should be thinking about starting early in your entrepreneurial venture needs exactly two things:

Idea: You need a product, something to sell. But I'm not talking about a physical product necessarily; you can sell your thoughts, your words, and your passion. That's what I'm doing, right? Sending out my words, getting you to read them, and if you like what I say or how I think, you buy my product. Costs me nothing to sit here typing. All I do is write what I think. Put my ideas down on paper. If you can put yours on paper, you can start a business.

An Internet Connection: Whether you are putting your ideas down in a book, a blog, a website, or somebody else's website, you need an internet connection to get them out there.

Kshaunish Jaini had an idea and an internet connection and he started a travel startup. Harsh had an idea and an internet connection and he started a money-making blog. The Bansals had an idea and an internet connection and they started a Flipkart.

"'If I were to squeeze this orange as hard as I could, what would come out?' I asked him. He looked at me like I was a little crazy and said, 'Juice, of course.'

'Do you think apple juice could come out of it?' 'No!' he laughed. 

'What about grapefruit juice?' 'No!'

'What would come out of it?' 'Orange juice, of course.'

'Why? Why when you squeeze an orange does orange juice come out?'  

He may have been getting a little exasperated with me at this point.

'Well, it's an orange and that's what's inside."

I nodded.

'Let's assume that this orange isn't an orange, but it's you. And someone squeezes you, puts pressure on you, says something you don't like, offends you. And out of you comes anger, hatred, bitterness, fear. Why?

The answer, as our young friend has told us, is " because that's what's inside. It's one of the great lessons of life. What comes out when life squeezes you? When someone hurts or offends you? If anger, pain and fear come out of you, it's because that's what's inside.

It doesn't matter who does the squeezing: your mother, your brother, your children, your boss, the government. If someone says something about you that you don't like, what comes out of you is what's inside. And what's inside is up to you, it's your choice. When someone puts the pressure on you and out of you comes anything other than love, it's because that's what you've allowed to be inside. 

Once you take away all those negative things you don't want in your life and replace them with love, you'll find yourself living a highly functioning life."...

Dear Team Members

As you are aware I will be leaving the services of Schneider Electric today, the 30th of June 2015. Its time to say good bye after almost a decade of service at Schneider Electric. Its been a incredible journey for me spread across 10 years in 3 different roles.

During this journey I have seen the rise of Schneider Electric, came across some great Managers, colleagues and peers and had the privilege of working under some great Leaders and leading some great teams across the world.

I have always believed that a Leader is only as good as his team. What ever I have been able to achieve or succeed  its because of the incredible people who worked with me and walked the journey along with me. I have been fortunate to have teams who have worked tirelessly, very sincerely, hardworking, very committed and loyal - we lost just 1 leader (N-2) in my team during my entire 10 years of working at SE.

As I move on, I would like to take a moment to remember and cherish our times together. We have given the best, accomplished a lot & sure a lot to be proud off.

Always give your best wherever you are, never get discouraged, never be petty; always remember, others may crib about you, but those who crib about you don't win unless you crib about  them, and then you destroy yourself.

And so, I leave with high hopes, in good spirit, and with deep humility, and with very much gratefulness in my heart. I can only say to each and every one of you not only will I always remember you, not only will I always be grateful to you but always you will be in my heart and you will be in our prayers. 

It’s been great interacting and knowing each one of you.  Thank you all for your support, patience, and friendship over the past year. I will definitely miss working @ APC and SE. Goodbyes are not forever. Goodbyes are not the end. They simply mean I’ll miss you. Until we meet again! This is not a goodbye, only “hasta luego” or “see you later”.
